Places to visit in Jammu  Vaishno Devi Temple: Vashno Devi Temple is one the most Divine shrine of India; it holds a great religious importance in the eyes of Hindus. It is placed at an altitude of 5300feet above sea level on the top of Trikuta Hills of lower Himalayas. This place is exclusively dedicated to the sacred Hindu goddess “Maa Vaishno Devi”. After Tirumala Venkateshwara temple, this shrine is the second most visited religious destination in India, which attracts over 8 million people yearly. In order to reach here you need to trek 12kms from the base camp in Katra.

The Temple is located in the heart of the city and is covered with gold sheet from the three sides, even the interiors are gold plated. The beautiful garden is situated on the bank of river Tawi and is quiet identical to the beautiful mughal garden. Covered in acres of woods this place also serves a home to variety of trees, colorful flowers and shrubs growing in it which gives the city a beautiful view. Places to visit in Jammu  Ranbireshwar Temple: Ranbireshwar temple is the biggest Shiva temple of North India; it is one of the most popular tourist spot of Jammu. This ancient temple is located across Shalimar road near the new secretariat. Devoted to lord Shiva this sacred temple was built by Maharaja Ranbir Singh. The temple consists of a “lingum” which is around 8-feet in height and has been carved out from a black stone. This lingum is biggest in India. There is also huge mammoth like images of Ganesh, kartikeye and Nandi bull.

Places to visit in Jammu  Mahamaya Temple: Mahamaya Temple is a popular site devoted to the local freedom fighter Mahamaya who belonged to the Dongra community. According to the history, it was in 14th century when the local hero Mahamaya sacrificed her life to save the state from the hands of foreign aggressors. The temple is placed on the bank of the beautiful Tawi River, you can even sight Baku fort from this place.
